ORO VALLEY, Ariz. — Oro Valley police released body camera footage of a shooting last September during an arrest, Tucson News Now reported.

A dozen officers and K-9 units surrounded the suspected drug residence and ordered the suspect, 41-year-old Steven Stribling, to come out.

“We’re wanting to give every opportunity for anybody inside the home to No. 1, know it’s police officers outside and No. 2, they need to be coming to the door,” said Lt. Curtiss Hicks told the news site. “This isn’t a nice quiet knock.”

Stribling refused to adhere to commands, so officers breached the front door.

“Less than a second after that last ram hit, when the door swings open, the suspect fires at the officer,” Hicks said. “That first round you hear is the suspect firing, followed up by three rounds fired by Det. Young immediately following that.”

Stribling then emerged to give himself up. Officers then rendered aid to the wounded suspect until paramedics arrived.

“They [officers] reacted exactly how they were trained to,” Hicks said. “They had to make decisions quickly and they were able to make that transition from having to address a deadly threat into now we need to provide aid to that individual. And they did exactly what I hope they would do.”

Stribling was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts including second-degree murder, aggravated assault on a peace officer and two drug charges.
