Investigators said Tuesday that more than one officer fired at a North Idaho fugitive early Monday, killing him.
Police previously had not confirmed whether one or multiple officers fired at Justin Earl Nicholas Todd, 33, who led police on a chase early Monday before he was shot.
The Post Falls police officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
Investigators continued Tuesday to conduct interviews and process evidence, which they said could take several days to complete, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department. Lab results could take several more weeks.
The Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office will decide whether the shooting was justified.
Investigators confirmed that the chase ended in the St. Estephe Court cul-de-sac in west Hayden, where Todd struck an Idaho State Police trooper with his vehicle before he was shot. The trooper was knocked to the ground by the force of the car and suffered minor injuries.
Todd was pronounced dead at Kootenai Medical Center.
