YORK, Pa. — York County Sheriff Richard Keuerleber confirmed one of his deputies was shot in the face Thursday morning in York City.
At about 9:20 a.m., the sheriff said the deputy is expected to survive.
“He was coherent, he was talking, his vitals are good,” Keuerleber said. “We don’t know if he’ll have to have surgery or not.”
The deputy, whose name has not yet been released, returned fire and shot his attacker, according to the sheriff.
Keuerleber said CPR was performed on the man who shot the deputy, and both were taken to York Hospital.
The deputy, who was shot in the cheek, was assisting York City Police in serving an arrest warrant at a home in the 900 block of East Philadelphia Street, the sheriff said.
At 9:50 a.m., York County Coroner Pam Gay said her office has so far not been called to investigate.
Neighbor Karen Randolph said her daughter was upstairs and heard arguing, then heard about four gunshots in rapid succession, followed by six more gunshots.
“It sounded like fireworks,” she said.
