AUSTIN — A University of Texas officer was injured when his service weapon accidentally fired while it was holstered, KXAN reported.
Officer Cory Morrison was hit by a bullet that went in and out of his right leg, UTPD Chief David Carter told the news site. Morrison was standing outside of his cruiser talking to two colleagues when the firearm went off.
Morrison was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Carter told the news site Morrison was doing well.
Police were investigating how the weapon unintentionally fired.
The 14-year law enforcement veteran was placed on administrative leave with pay while he recovers.
