HOUSTON — Houston police officers responded to an active home invasion, resulting in a shooting that left one officer wounded, KHOU reported.

The incident began on Sept. 17 when two men posing as DoorDash delivery workers forced their way into a home after the homeowner’s daughter opened the door, according to the report. The intruders zip-tied the woman in front of her two young children and began searching the house.

A neighbor, noticing the suspicious activity, called 911. Police arrived within minutes and found two suspects inside the home, along with the woman bound with zip ties, according to the report.

As officers were arresting one suspect, a second suspect emerged from a back room and opened fire, video shows. Officer S. Durfee was shot in the leg but returned fire, while his partner applied a tourniquet to his wound.

The shooting suspect fled but was captured nearby and faces charges including aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated robbery, according to the report. The other suspect and the getaway driver face charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Durfee is recovering and has recently begun walking again.
