Funeral set for officer killed in NYC suburb

SELDEN, N.Y. — Funeral services will be held Friday for the Long Island police officer killed in a friendly fire shooting.

Geoffrey Breitkopf was killed Saturday night, several minutes after fellow Nassau County police officers fatally shot a disturbed, knife-wielding man in a Massapequa Park home.

Breitkopf was killed outside the home by an officer from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department.

That officer apparently was responding to the shooting because it was near a Long Island Rail Road station.

Police said the friendly-fire shooting remained under investigation Monday.

Breitkopf also volunteered with the Selden Fire Department.

His funeral will be held Friday at St. Margaret’s of Scotland Church in Selden. His wake will be Wednesday and Thursday at the Selden Fire Department headquarters.
