CHICAGO — Five people were injured Thursday morning when two Chicago police vehicles collided in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, fire officials said.

The two police department vehicles collided near the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Francisco Avenue about 10:30 a.m,, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

Two people were in serious condition and were taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. Three people had their conditions stabilized and were being taken to either Mount Sinai Hospital or Rush University Medical Center, he said.

Preliminary information suggests all the injured people were police officers, according to a social media post from Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the police department.

Guglielmi said in an email the department did not have much information about how the collision happened.

“All we have is they were responding to a call and collided with each other,” he said.
