DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — A Downers Grove man awaiting trial on charges he threatened to kill a police officer following a 2023 driving under the influence arrest is back behind bars facing new allegations of doing the same over the weekend.

Ron McClain, 47, of the 400 block of Austin Street, is charged with threatening a public official, DUI and other crimes stemming from his arrest Saturday in Darien, DuPage County prosecutors said Wednesday.

According to prosecutors, McClain was pulled over by at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, after a police officer saw him driving on Cass Avenue not wearing a seat belt, accelerating for no apparent reason and then slowing down, and swerving within his lane.

Following a preliminary breath test, on which McClain registered a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, he was arrested, authorities said. McClain then told an officer I wish I catch you out on the street. I’m going to shoot you, prosecutors allege.

At the time, McClain had been on pretrial release awaiting trial on charges stemming from a 2023 DUI arrest in Westmont, during which authorities allege he repeatedly threatened to shoot an officer in the head.

In that case, McClain faces four counts of threatening a public official, a Class 3 Felony.

DuPage County Judge Anthony Coco on Sunday ordered McClain be held in the county jail while awaiting trial in the new case. On Wednesday, Judge Jeffrey MacKay revoked his pretrial release in the 2023 case.

McClain’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 4, in front of MacKay.
