DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A man went on a car crashing rampage Thursday, hitting a dozen vehicles before his truck became stuck against a guardrail.
Police arrested Wesley Dicks, 29, after he fled his truck, stripped off his pants and ran into a hospital.
Dicks, of Fort Lauderdale, was charged with seven felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. None of the injured, all of whom were in vehicles that were hit, were seriously hurt.
The string of crashes began Thursday morning in the parking lot of Daytona Beach Community College where Dicks hit six cars with his truck, said Sgt. Al Tolley, a spokesman for the Daytona Beach Police.
“He flew over the grass median, hit me and then flew over there and took off,” said Janine Robinson, whose vehicle was struck.
Jenna Johnston said Dicks laughed after hitting her vehicle.
“He saw me staring at him,” Johnston said. “I was sitting in the passenger seat and he just came right at me and hit me.”
Dicks then drove westbound on International Speedway Boulevard and hit three more cars.
“The cars were either in front of him or he would swerve to strike them,” Tolley said.
Dicks’ truck hit three more vehicles at an intersection before becoming stuck against a guardrail.
Dicks left his vehicle, took of his pants and ran across the street to the Halifax Medical Center, Tolley said.
Police officers arrested Dicks at the hospital shortly afterward.
