CARRIZOZO, N.M. (AP) - A small uprising at the Lincoln County Detention Center was quickly controlled by state police and local authorities Sunday.
State police Maj. Faron Segotta said the uprising occurred around 3 p.m.
A group of prisoners set a fire inside the detention center, Segotta said.
“They’ve got it under control,” Segotta said Sunday evening. “The fires are out and they’re doing a head count.”
Segotta was not sure exactly how many prisoners were housed at the jail or how many were involved in the uprising.
A woman who answered the phone at the jail said officials were not immediately available to comment on the situation.
