AUSTIN — Austin police chief Art Acevedo stepped away from the usual administrative work Friday night after he spotted the erratic driving of a suspected drunk driver.

Acevedo had been driving on South Congress Avenue at about 8:45 p.m. when he saw a car in front of him drifting in and out of its lane.

The chief followed the driver for about two blocks before pulling the driver over, an arrest affidavit said.

Acevedo then turned the investigation over to another officer. But the social media friendly chief did take the time to post about the arrest to Twitter.

“I just turned over a DWI arrest to our DWI team. Wish folks made better choices. Glad @Austin_Police caught’m before anyone injured/killed!” Acevedo wrote.

After performing a sobriety test, police arrested the driver, 43-year-old Marco Munoz, on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Munoz has a prior drunken driving conviction, the affidavit said.
