It was revealed that Sgt. Brian Smith had never received a valentine, so Omaha PD changed that

OMAHA — An Omaha officer really felt the admiration of his community on Valentine’s Day this year after it was revealed he’d never received a valentine before.

Precinct Captain Shayna Ray had told Sgt. Brian Smith she was having a hard time finding valentines that her fifth-grader would like to hand out at school when Smith replied that he never received valentines in school, according to Omaha.com.

Shocked, Ray posted the story about Smith to the department’s Facebook page encouraging the community and the department members to send valentines to Smith.

Smith received hundreds of homemade cards from students, Girl Scouts, day cares, and even other communities, according to the report.

“It’s such a cool, overwhelming response,” Ray said. “He’s one of those guys who’s so positive and happy all the time. A bright spot in our stressful jobs.”

It was later discovered that Valentine’s Day is also Smith’s birthday.
