COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) -- A former police officer accused of selling drugs to undercover agents has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Newton County Superior Court Judge John Ott gave Brandon McDonald, 33, the six-year sentence Tuesday, after McDonald reversed his original plea of not guilty.
Authorities said McDonald and another former police officer, Greg Rogers, made several drug transactions involving crystal methamphetamine with undercover East Metro Drug Enforcement Team agents in 2002.
Rogers and McDonald were not working as police officers at the time, but had worked for several law enforcement agencies in Rockdale, Newton, Walton, Jasper and Morgan counties.
Rogers, 35, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has remained in jail since October when the judge denied bond for both men because prosecutors said Rogers threatened one of the agents involved in the bust.
If convicted, Rogers could face up to 76 years in prison.
