Illinois Sheriff Reported Missing

The Chicago Tribune

A statewide search was under way Monday to locate Grundy County Sheriff James Olson, who had been missing since he left the sheriff’s office in Morris early in the day driving an official vehicle, Grundy County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Terry Marketti said.

“He came in early Monday to do a few things then left in an unmarked vehicle, and we have not seen him since,” said Marketti.

Olson, 51, had been having “personal problems” but did not talk about them, Marketti said.

Olson was driving a 2003 dark green Ford Explorer with Illinois license 2316758.

The search was called around 6 p.m. Monday, Marketti said, when all Illinois law enforcement offices were notified Olson was missing.

Olson, president of the Illinois Sheriffs Association, has been Grundy County sheriff since 1986, Marketti said.
