VANCOUVER, Wash. — A K-9 stabbed by a wanted man has died from his injuries, KPTV reported.
The incident occurred Sept. 1 when officers were pursuing the fugitive who was hiding in bushes. K-9 Ike found the suspect and bit him. The suspect then stabbed Ike.
The K-9 was rushed to an emergency animal hospital but did not survive his injuries. Ike had been with the department since 2012.
“I hate the idea, I love dogs,” Vancouver resident Don Benjamin told the news site. “It is an officer, it’s just like attacking an officer, he’s going to go down for a death, or an assault.”
Officers were able to subdue and arrest the suspect, 25-year-old Jacky Chan Karou, with an ECD.
Karou was charged with harming a police dog and criminal impersonation.
