KIRKLAND, Wash. — A Washington man has been arrested after threatening to kill former Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson.

According to Fox 13, police arrested 46-year-old Jaleel Tariq Abdul-Jabbaar after a string of death threats made over Facebook that stretched back to shortly after the August 9 shooting of Michael Brown and continued through late November. He was arrested Tuesday, KIRO-TV reported.

Abdul-Jabbaar also threatened other police officers and reportedly attempted to purchase a gun over the social media website.

“We are fortunate to live in a country where the right to speak out about current events and disagree with our government is protected by the highest law of the land,” United States Attorney Annette L. Hayes said in a statement. “Our freedom of speech does not, however, extend to making threats to kill or injure law enforcement officers.”

Abdul-Jabbaar faces five years in prison for the death threats.
