NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A SWAT officer was shot twice Friday while serving a warrant for a fraud case.
According to the Miami Herald, 47-year-old Officer Lino Diaz was shot in the arm and leg and was quickly taken to safety.
No other officers were injured in the standoff. Two suspects who have yet to be named were taken into custody.
“They took on fire even before they ever made entry,” Maj. Kathy Katerman told the Miami Herald.
Officer Diaz will undergo surgery and is expected to survive the shooting.
“He took 2 bullets for the people of North Miami Beach today,” North Miami Beach Mayor George Vallejo said.
