Pa. officer slashed in face, suspect shot

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance involving a mentally ill man when the incident occurred

SHARON HILL, Pa. — A Delaware County officer was slashed in the face with a steak knife and the suspect was critically wounded, ABC 6 reported.

For the last three days, officer had been responding to incidents involving a mentall ill man in the area. Tuesday evening officers were responding again to a domestic disturbance at the residence.

Two officers arrived but the man would not answer the door. Police then breached the home and as they walked inside, the suspect lunged at officers, slashing one in the face with a knife.

The county detective with the officers fired a single shot at the suspect, wounding him in the chest.

The officer and suspect were rushed to hospitals.

The officer was in stable condition.

The suspect was in critical but stable condition.

The incident was under investigation.
