WASHINGTON — Local and federal officers arrested 48 people on Thursday as part of a three-day sting targeting violent offenders, who were on supervised release or probation, with outstanding warrants, News 4 reported.
“Operation Trident” was aimed to stop offenders from committing more crimes while not being held in jail, according to the report.
“If you are in one of these release statuses, you have to be compliant, you can’t be committing more crimes or you could get rearrested,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said.
FOX 5 reported that of the warrants, 19 were for failure to appear, 33 were bench warrants, nine were fugitive from justice, two were federal warrants, seven were for parole violations, two were for probation violations and three were for firearms, which were seized, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
“Violent crime within the district is predominantly driven by a small number of individuals,” said Acting Chief Pamela A. Smith. “This week’s operation was a significant step toward combating this violence and bringing peace back to our neighborhoods.”
The Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington Field Office, and Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency worked together to apprehend the wanted individuals, the FOX 5 report states.
