POMONA, Calif. — Officials said a man posed as a police officer in order to threaten and rob people he suspected of being immigrants.

KTLA reports that for two weeks, Andres Sanchez, 20, wore a law enforcement uniform and drove an unmarked vehicle to pull over drivers he suspected of being immigrants. Prosecutors said Sanchez would threaten drivers with deportation if they didn’t give him money, jewelry or a cellphone.

Authorities said Sanchez also used a firearm during one of the incidents. Officers were finally able to apprehend the suspect upon receiving a tip.

Police said a 17-year-old, whose identity has been withheld, was also arrested.

Sanchez faces 10 felony counts, including five counts of false imprisonment by violence. If convicted, the suspect could face up to 25 years and four months in prison.
