GREENWOOD, Ark. — When Greenwood police officers found out teacher Jennifer Nelms, a long-time supporter of first-responders, had died, they knew they had to step in and help.

Nelms, 32, was diagnosed with Lupus two years ago and passed away Saturday due to complications, KFSM reports.

Around 15 officers and police and fire chiefs filled in as substitute teachers so Nelms’ colleagues could say their final goodbyes.

“Ms. Nelms was a supporter of the fire and police department,” Fire Chief Stewart Bryan told KFSM. “She`s been a supporter of us for many years. Now that the school`s in need, we wanted to help the school out. We wanted to make sure all the teachers were available to attend the funeral.”
