HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — Two Indiana deputies went above and beyond in the course of their duty over the weekend to help a new citizen.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies Josh Cochard and Scott Chapman responded to a call about a woman driving an electric scooter on Fortville Pike, WTHR reported. The woman was new to the area, living at a local campground, and making her way to get groceries from a store approximately 5 miles away.

The deputies told her that there was not a safe scooter route and that her trip was dangerous.

“She had no vehicle transportation and was on the scooter traveling to Kroger for groceries when she was stopped,” officials stated in a Facebook post.

After giving her a list of transportation resources in the community, the deputies were still not satisfied with letting her continue and decided to complete the task themselves, picking up and delivering the groceries.

Deputy Scott Chapman purchased the groceries and Deputy Cochard went to the store, picked up her groceries and delivered them to the woman’s camp site, Captain Robert Harris, public information officer for the sheriff’s department told the Daily Reporter.
