‘He’s our angel’: Fla. officer checks in on baby he saved with CPR after crash

“I’m very, very glad that a first responder was right there,” Musgrove said. “It didn’t have to be me, it could have been anybody, but a first responder being right there probably saved her life.”

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — A deputy has been named an “uncle” to an infant he saved with CPR, ABC7 reported.

The Feb. 8 incident began when Sgt. David Musgrove saw a motorcycle speed past his car, dash camera video shows. About 10 seconds later, the motorcyclist hit Kayleigh Foley’s vehicle, according to the report. The motorcyclist was killed on impact and was lodged in the side of the vehicle, trapping Foley’s two children inside.

Three-year-old Ariel was not severely injured, but 6-month-old Lola was not breathing and had no heartbeat when Musgrove pulled her from the vehicle, according to the report. Musgrove performed CPR on Lola until she took a breath. Paramedics arrived on the scene to provide further life-saving care.

“He’s our angel, that’s for sure,” Lola’s grandmother, Lisa Foley, told Good Morning America. “We wouldn’t have our baby Lola if it had not been for Sgt. Musgrove and his quick action.”

Lola was airlifted from the crash scene to a children’s hospital where she was diagnosed with multiple skull fractures and a broken arm, according to the report. She suffered multiple seizures and was placed in a medically induced coma for a week before she made a “miraculous recovery,” according to her mother and grandmother.

“She’s a little miracle,” Lisa Foley said.

Musgrove has checked in on Lola’s recovery frequently since the incident occurred, according to the report.

“I’m very, very glad that a first responder was right there,” Musgrove said. “It didn’t have to be me, it could have been anybody, but a first responder being right there probably saved her life.”
