GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — Dash camera video shows a Georgia deputy using his cruiser to protect other drivers from an out-of-control vehicle, News4Jax reported.

Video shows a damaged vehicle drifting across several lanes of traffic and onto the wrong side of the road. The car was stolen and the driver was fleeing police, according to the report.

As the vehicle drove towards stopped traffic at a dangerous speed, Deputy Christopher Hatcher with the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office drove his cruiser into the vehicle to prevent it from hitting other cars.

“I attempted or tried to move out of the way but then for some reason, I turned right into his car, which deflected him into the parking lot. So, the two cars behind me were still left safe,” Hatcher said. “[I was thinking] that I need to get my car out of the way so I don’t get hurt and then for some reason, I’m like nope, let’s go into the car. It was quick.”

Hatcher sustained non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, Deshawn Stacey, 28, was arrested on 14 different charges, including DUI, theft and hit-and-run, according to the report.

Hatcher received the Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor for Heroism. He returned to work two days after the incident.
