BOGART, Ga. — The Oconee County sheriff released video from an officer’s body camera that showed a confrontation between an armed man and deputies during a domestic call, Athens-Banner Herald reported.

Deputies responded to a call on April 20 and were attempting to arrest 38-year-old John Martin on a family violence charge. Martin locked himself in a bedroom, and deputies obtained a key to enter and take him into custody. However upon entry, deputies heard the sound of a handgun slide being racked into the loaded position.

“The suspect then suddenly stands from a position of concealment and raises a handgun, pointing it directly at the two deputies at the door,” Sheriff Scott Berry said in a Facebook post.

Cpl. Adam Thrower fired back, hit Martin in the chest which caused him to fall and drop his firearm.

Martin was taken to the hospital and treated for his wounds. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and other charges stemming from the domestic violence incident.
