TEWKSBURY, Mass. — Police used the last address that had been programmed into a GPS unit they believed had been stolen to contact the owner of the device, confirm its theft, and arrest an 18-year-old Tewksbury man on Tuesday.
Police were called to the area of 90 State St. Tuesday about 12:25 a.m., after someone called police to report a man with a flashlight looking through cars in the area.
Officers arrived and found Jack Cappello, 18, of 10 Pearl St., Tewksbury, and thought he looked nervous, according to police.
Officers found Cappello with a digital camera and a GPS unit, and checked the GPS to determine 189 South St. was the last address programmed into it.
Officers contacted a resident of 189 South St., and that resident realized that his car had been broken into and that his GPS was missing, according to police.
Cappello then admitted to taking the device, according to police.
He was charged with breaking and entering motor vehicle and larceny over $250.
