After gathering documentation from a violator on a traffic stop and while you are in your car writing a citation or running NCIC checks, start shutting the driver door but do not let it latch.
If the violator for some reason decides to exit the vehicle and you have to quickly exit yours, all you have to do is roll out or push it open. Precious time will be saved when you aren’t reaching for the door handle.
This will speed up your exit to a position of cover or enable you to get out quicker should your perp decide to run.
