CLEVELAND CITY, Tenn. — A Tennessee police officer is being lauded for going above and beyond the call of duty for a family in need.
Inside Edition reports that Cleveland City Police Officer Mike Kelly was working security at a Walmart earlier this month when he noticed a man’s card get declined as he tried to buy groceries. As the family began walking out, the officer said the look on one of the children’s faces caught his attention.
“The little girl’s face got me, her eyes were welling up and it broke my heart. I felt God telling me, ‘I put you up here for a reason,’” Kelly said. “I walked up to him, and said, ‘Please let me bless you today.’”

Kelly bought the groceries for the family out of pocket and even bought the kids some candy.
A stranger posted about the officer’s act of kindness on Facebook, where it was widely shared. The officer’s department caught wind of the post and praised the officer for his actions.
“It is guaranteed that Kelly wouldn’t want the credit from this, but it’s these random acts of kindness that inspire US ALL to be kind to others,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Kelly, who’s an SRO, said children hold a special place in his heart, according to WRCB-TV. He added that he didn’t do it for the attention, and encouraged others to follow his lead by helping strangers in their time of need.
