WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A homeless man is accused of stealing a patrol car and crashing it with a K-9 inside, WFLA reports.

Winter Haven Police said employees at an Amscot called 911 when a rock was thrown through the front glass door of the business on Saturday.

Shortly after, a man identified as Menylek Jarrett, who is homeless, went into the business and threw a rock at the teller’s glass, police said. Since the glass did not shatter, Jarrett tried to enter the door of the teller area. When he failed to get into the teller area, he ran from the scene.

Unaware Jarrett left the building, officers went inside to investigate. At the same time, police said Jarrett smashed the driver’s side window of a locked patrol car that had police K-9 Logan inside.

Jarrett drove away, where he crashed into several vehicles. Once he realized the patrol car was totaled, he ran toward a park where officers caught up with him.

One person involved in a crashed vehicle was taken to an area hospital with head pain, police said. No other injuries were reported. K-9 Logan was “safe as well,” according to police.

Jarrett was taken to Winter Haven Health for treatment and then booked into the Polk County Jail. He is currently being held with no bond.
