OKLAHOMA CITY — Recently released body cam footage shows a DUI suspect dragging an officer in an attempt to flee a traffic stop.
On the morning of May 15, police said Officer Lawrence Robinson responded to reports of a driver passed out in a car, NewsOK reports. The officer found 22-year-old Virgil Shane Spencer asleep in the car with the vehicle running.
Robinson is seen on video banging on the car’s window and instructing Spencer to open the door. Spencer rolls the window up and down multiple times, which prompts Robinson to warn the suspect not to roll it back up or he would “bust” the window.
After the suspect refused to comply, Robinson shatters the window. The car’s engine can be heard revving as the officer leans over and tries to turn the engine off.
Spencer managed to put the car in gear with Robinson partially inside the car, dragging the officer 20 yards before he was able to engage the car’s parking brake. Spencer was pulled from the vehicle and tried to flee, but he was quickly caught and arrested.
Police said Spencer had previously been convicted of DUI and that his license was revoked. He was jailed on numerous complaints, including DUI and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
