CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was injured Wednesday night by a Chicago Police Department vehicle during a foot pursuit on the city’s West Side, sources said.
The 30-year-old officer was on foot near Douglas Boulevard and Spaulding Avenue at 7:18 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by the commander of the CPD’s Ogden (10th) District, sources told the Tribune.

The officer, a member of CPD for nine years, underwent surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remained Thursday, sources said.
It was not known what prompted the pursuit, and the commander did not respond to an inquiry from the Tribune.
The president of the CPD officers’ union couldn’t be reached. A CPD spokesperson declined to comment on specifics but said the department has opened an internal investigation. A spokesperson for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability said the agency opened an investigation as well.
