DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Volusia County woman is accused of posting a threat on Instagram that she was going to shoot President Donald Trump at his Friday rally in Daytona Beach — which she says was just a joke, according to Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

Allison Jeanne Albro, 21, of Daytona Beach, was arrested Thursday on charges including making written threats to kill or do bodily injury, court records show. Deputies say her post was referencing Trump’s rally scheduled to be held in that city Friday night, where he will appear alongside U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, the GOP nominee for Florida governor.

“Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my glock! wish me luck guys!!” Albro is alleged to have posted to Instagram on Thursday. The FBI and United States Secret Service quickly detected the post and contacted the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, who arrested Albro later that day, records show.

Chitwood announced the arrest Friday in a post on X and said the sheriff’s office will be working with the FBI and Secret Service to ensure Trump’s visit will be safe for all who attend.

“We are not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president…[she] is learning that the hard way,” he wrote. “I would strongly advise anyone else thinking of posting a ‘joke’ along these lines to think twice.”

After hearing from the Secret Service, Volusia deputies spoke to Albro at her home, where she tearfully said she knew why they were there and that she had already taken down the post. She said she had spoken to her mother and was told she could get arrested for it, according to her arrest affidavit.

Albro, whose latest voter records show she is a registered Republican, told deputies she meant the post as a joke, that she doesn’t own a Glock and doesn’t like guns. She added she does not like Trump but that she was not going to shoot anyone. Deputies did not find any firearms when they searched her home, the affidavit said.

She is still in custody at the Volusia County Jail, records show.

Trump has been the subject of several assassination attempts and security incidents, including in Butler, Pa. in July 2024 when he was wounded in his ear by a bullet in a shooting that killed one person and injured two. The shooter, Thomas Crooks, was killed by police.

Ryan Routh was also arrested after having been seen wielding a rifle outside Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach in September 2024 . He was sentenced this year to life in prison.
