UNION GROVE, Wis. — A 29-year-old Illinois man who is wanted in connection to a shooting Sunday night in Trevor was taken into custody Tuesday morning.

Racine County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the area and reportedly saw Jake Wenzel and a woman get into a silver sedan and leave the parking lot.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was the same one who reportedly had been involved in an altercation with Wenzel on Sunday and whose home he allegedly fired a gunshot into.

RCSO deputies stopped the car in a parking lot about a mile north of the motel.

According to an RCSO news release, as the deputies where performing the stop, Wenzel suddenly re-entered the car and the woman got out.

Wenzel then reportedly drove over a large curb and sped away.

During the pursuit, which RCSO said reached speeds of 90 mph, the front driver-side tire of the car began to shred.

According to the RCSO release, Wenzel drove into a muddy field across from the Ellsworth Correctional Center, 21425 Springs St., and attempted to run away.

Deputies released K9 Simba and K9 Cain, who successfully apprehended Wenzel.

After being arrested, Wenzel was taken to a hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained while being apprehended, then was transferred to the custody of KCSO.

About 11:43 p.m. Sunday, a caller reported that Wenzel had fired a gunshot into her home on the 10400 block of 268th Avenue in Trevor.

According to a new release from KCSO, the woman and Wenzel had been involved in an earlier altercation. After the woman returned home, Wenzel reportedly arrived and, after being told to leave by the woman’s sister, allegedly fired a gunshot into the home.

About 6 a.m. Monday, deputies found Wenzel’s truck in the Center Lake Woods area of Salem Lakes and later sought the public’s help in locating him.
