BWC: Carjacking suspect struck, killed after ignoring cops’ instructions, fleeing onto highway

The video shows officers pursuing the woman through a brush and over a fence, instructing her to stop and to get on the ground before she tried to cross the highway

OXON HILL, Md. – The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division released body-worn camera footage showing an incident where a carjacking suspect was killed after running onto a highway, FOX 5 reported.

Prince George’s County Police Department and Forest Heights Police Department officers had located a stolen vehicle connected to an earlier carjacking, according to the report. When a woman entered the vehicle, police attempted to stop her.

Video shows multiple cruisers pursuing the vehicle until it came to a stop behind a Home Depot. The woman then got out of the car and ran toward a wooded area.

Officers pursued her on foot instructing her repeatedly to stop and to get on the ground. The suspect did not comply, but continued to run through the brush, climbing a fence before running toward the highway.

While attempting to cross Interstate 495, the suspect was struck by two passing vehicles and died at the scene. The drivers of both vehicles were uninjured, according to the report.

Video shows officers attempting to stop traffic on foot using flashlights, eventually succeeding in shutting down the highway.
