McLOUD, Okla. — A police officer remains in serious condition Wednesday after a collision with a trash truck Tuesday morning in McLoud, hospital officials said.

About 6:40 a.m., McLoud police officer Alan Smith, 28, was driving a police vehicle on State Highway 102 about a mile north of Interstate 40 when he collided with a trash truck, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons said Smith may have been attempting to make a traffic stop when the collision happened.

Smith was pinned in his patrol car for about an hour and 45 minutes, troopers said.

He arrived at OU Medical Center in serious condition, hospital officials said. Truck driver Jason Estes, 37, of Oklahoma City, was taken to a Shawnee hospital with minor injuries and released, troopers reported.

Timmons said the patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
