The department will now allow officers who have certain pre-existing medical conditions and pregnant members to modify their work assignment

NEW YORK — After an NYPD detective died from coronavirus complications on Saturday, March 28, the NYPD has introduced new policies to accommodate members with pre-existing medical conditions and pregnant members, reports NBC News.

The department will now allow officers who have certain pre-existing medical conditions and pregnant members of the Department to modify their work assignment, the document shows.

The memo says, “any employee who believes they are in a vulnerable population and would like to request a reasonable accommodation should confer with their Commanding Officer.”

The officer who died was identified as Det. Cedric Dixon, 48, of the 32nd Precinct in Harlem. His death follows two civilian deaths in the department over the last two days.

On Saturday, 12% of uniformed NYPD officers called out sick, nearly double the number from five days previously.
