TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department in Texas released its dash cam video of the arrest of an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran who was stopped while hiking with his teenage son and disarmed — a controversial arrest that led to two high-profile trials.

C.J. Grisham and his 15-year-old son were on a 10-mile wilderness hike for the Boy Scouts when officer Steve Ermis stopped them, according to KXXV.com.

A tense altercation began when both the officer and Grisham grabbed the citizen’s firearm, which was strapped across his chest.

“Hey, don’t disarm me, man,” Grisham can be heard saying in dash cam footage.

“Once I find out there are no issues then you can be on your way,” the officer said as he placed Grisham’s hands behind his back.

Grisham asks the officer, “You can just stop anyone in the world?” to which Ermis replies, “For rudely displaying, yes.”

Grisham told the officer he also had a handgun in his waistband and a permit in his wallet. Equipped with his own body camera, Grisham began filming the incident, then handed the camera over to his son.

Grisham was charged with resisting arrest for the March incident, which ended with a hung jury, according to the report. Tuesday he was convicted of the misdemeanor of interfering with a police officer and was fined $2,000.
