SEVILLE, Spain — Police officers in Spain were surprised to find four tons of stolen oranges after a pursuit.

Authorities in Seville released images Tuesday that show two cars and a van loaded with 8,000 pounds of stolen oranges, according to the Europa Press. Five suspects were arrested following the discovery.

Last week, police became suspicious after seeing the vehicles driving in a convoy at night. When police tried to pull the vehicles over, the suspects fled, leading to a pursuit.

The suspects claimed that they were “coming from very far away and had been stopping and collecting oranges along the way,” but police didn’t believe their story.

Juan Carlos Cabrera, Seville city security spokesman, said the arrests were important in “preserving the food security of the possible consumers who would have had these oranges.”
