Tip to NYC Police Leads to Human Remains in N.J.

The Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities discovered human remains in a Newark house Wednesday after New York City police led them to the location.

Newark Police Lt. Derek Glenn said investigators from New York’s Midtown South precinct were working on a missing person case and developed information that a body or remnants of it might be located in a house on Ellwood Avenue.

Officers went to the location Wednesday morning and found what they described only as “human remains” of an adult female.

It was not immediately clear who the victim was, nor was it clear which city’s police department would have jurisdiction in the case, Glenn said.

Police could not immediately tell how long the victim had been dead.

No arrests have been made. It was unclear whether the building was occupied.
