FAIRFAX, Va. — Fairfax police found a 15-foot underground cave 200 yards behind their headquarters, CNN reported.
A homeless man, 25-year-old Yosue Joel Rios, was arrested in connection to the underground dwelling, police spokesperson Officer Natalie Hinesley told the news site.
”...I have never seen something as intricate as this,” Hinesley told CNN.

Rios dug stairs that descended into two rooms and had been living in the space.
“To the left was a small alcove that was a little smaller where we thought he was sleeping,” Hinesley told CNN. “The room to the right was a bit larger from floor to ceiling that was about 5½ feet tall, so you could almost stand up.”
Along with sleeping gear, police also found digging tools and educational books with subjects including religion, the English language and the U.S. criminal justice system.
Rios was charged with destruction of property. Police also discovered Rios had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for traffic citations.
Police have not disclosed how long it took for Rios to dig the cave or how long he lived in it.
Emergency public work crews were instructed to dig out the cave and fill it in.
