OSAGE COUNTY, Okla. — An Oklahoma sheriff’s office is mourning the death of a veteran deputy who died while driving to work Friday.
Captain William “Willy” Hargraves, 44, who has been with the Osage County Sheriff’s Office for 24 years, was traveling on a highway to the sheriff’s office when he was involved in a collision at an intersection, according to the department’s Facebook post. A vehicle that had entered the highway from a stop sign caused the collision, ODMP.org reported. Hargraves struck a light pole after the collision and died from his injuries at the scene.
A procession for Hargraves took place on Sunday, which included a law enforcement and fire department escort from Tulsa to Ponca City. “We would love for our community, family and friends to help us show support for Willy’s family and our mourning sheriff’s office by lining the route with waves, honks, signs and just being present,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Hargraves leaves behind his wife and three children. The crash remains under investigation.
