AUSTIN — A state trooper who says she was moved to the late shift at the state Capitol after complaining about religious harassment is suing the Texas Department of Public Safety, according to a report in the Austin American-Statesman.

According to the lawsuit, Trooper Patsy Jones likes to read her Bible when she is at work. Jones claims her colleagues harassed her for this. She complained to her supervisors, who offered a mediation with the co-workers. According to the suit, she refused and was then made to work from home for six months.

Jones also refused a psychological exam that DPS ordered.

“Jones did not understand why she was being forced to remove herself from the workplace and stay at home while those who she complained about were not disciplined,” the lawsuit says.

She was eventually reassigned to work the night shift, which is a conflict because of family responsibilities. According to the Statesman’s report, she is seeking up to $1 million in damages.
