FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A Fairfax County officer was left “fighting for his life” inside his cruiser, Chief Kevin Davis said about a violent incident captured on video.

According to Davis, an officer came across a U-Haul that was reported stolen out of Richmond, Virginia. A man was standing outside of the U-Haul when the officer approached, WUSA9 reported.

That is when Davis said the man started “violently attacking” the officer. “This is quite a dramatic scene,” Davis said. The man pushed the officer inside his marked car and began beating him. The officer managed to call out for help on his radio, stating that the suspect had taken his gun from him.

At some point, the police cruiser went into reverse and somehow spun out from the gas station into a McDonald’s parking lot, running over bushes and hitting another parked car, FOX 5 reported.

Two other officers arrived on the scene and one officer reached inside and pulled the suspect off their colleague. That officer fired his gun and fatally wounded the suspect.

The attacked officer suffered minor injuries, including scrapes and bruises, Davis said.
