SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A suspect was arrested for assaulting an officer after he tricked him with a false report, according to a Sacramento Police Department press release.
The suspect, 21-year-old Juan Gomez, approached an officer in his patrol vehicle and said a gunman was in the area.
When the officer got out of his cruiser, Gomez immediately struck him in the face and knocked him to the ground. Gomez proceeded to strike the officer in the head and face repeatedly. The suspect tried several times to grab the officer’s firearm.
The officer was eventually able to radio for help and security officers in the area helped subdue the suspect.
The officer received multiple facial injuries and was sent to a local hospital. He is unable to work until further medical evaluations are conducted.
“The officer showed tremendous courage and restraint in surviving this dangerous situation,” the press release said.
Gomez was charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on a peace officer.
