Imagine a 911 call comes in reporting a suspect is fleeing the scene. The officers in the field are not able to pursue. However, through video surveillance in the area, eyes behind the scene are able to track the pursuer to their next location - and find the suspect through another off duty officer’s body camera. Before the officer arrives at the scene, an analyst runs a federated query to determine the suspect’s home address and notify the officer that the individual is headed to that address. The agency is able to quickly communicate the situation to the officer, secure the suspect and document the video evidence for faster case closure.

MEET THE SPEAKERS
Assistant Chief Colby Brandt
Glendale Police Department
Assistant Chief Colby Brandt joined the Glendale Police Department in 1997. Before being promoted to Assistant Chief of Police, Chief Brandt served as the Administrative Services Commander, overseeing training, personnel management, grants, budget, audits and inspections, the department’s Real Time Crime Center, and planning and research. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Property Crimes Detective, Auto Theft Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Neighborhood Response Squad Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, General Investigations Lieutenant and Gateway Patrol Commander.
Chief Brandt earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from Ottawa University and graduated with a Master of Science in Homeland Security from CalU. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (FBINA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Drug Unit Commanders Academy and the AZPOST Arizona Leadership Program (ALP).
Prior to joining the Glendale Police Department, Chief Brandt served as a United States Marine. He has been married for 27 years and has two children; a son and a daughter.
David Wilson
Ventura Police Department Assistant Police Chief (Ret.)
David Wilson’s commitment to serving his community and passion for public safety technology drove his career as a police officer with the Ventura Police Department in California since 1984. David worked as a civilian police service officer, police officer, sergeant, lieutenant and commander, and he was promoted to assistant chief of police in 2013. Wilson retired from Ventura PD in 2016.
During his 32-year career, Wilson served in a wide range of assignments including patrol, field-training officer, SWAT, community services, professional standards, special enforcement team (narcotics/gangs) and investigations. He served as a supervisor in patrol, 911 command center, SWAT and professional standards.
Jason Hutchens
Solutions Specialist - Motorola Solutions
Jason began his career with the Hudson Institute as a Research Fellow and as a partner with the city of Indianapolis working to combat violent crime by the use of data driven strategies for law enforcement. As early as 2003 Jason was already making a name for himself within public safety by winning the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) National Achievement Award for the Most Innovative Use of Technology in Law Enforcement. It was during this time he set the stage for a forward-thinking career by understanding the interconnectedness of policy, technology and processes within the criminal justice field.
In his current role as a member of Motorola’s Smart Public Safety Solutions team, Jason helps law enforcement agencies identify their problems, prioritize their goals and maximize their investment. By listening to customers’ challenges and helping them understand the underlying public safety technology ecosystem involved, he is able to structure a solution that fits the agency’s needs that focuses on mission performance and their business outcomes. In this way, Jason not only provides customers with innovative solutions, he helps them drive process change so they can continue to grow and adapt in the years to come.
Ryan Zidar
Solution Architect - Motorola Solutions
As a technologist in public safety, Ryan has a specialized focus in 9-1-1, Police, Fire and EMS Communications. Throughout his time at Motorola Solutions, he has demonstrated technical experience with Intelligence-Led Policing Software, Real-Time Crime Centers, Digital Evidence Management, Investigative Analytics and Community Engagement. Ryan had performed over 600 technology sessions, focusing on real-time crime center solutions.
