Video: 18-year-old suspect rams cruiser, striking officer with door before pursuit, crash

The suspect, accused of being intoxicated during the pursuit, fled from an Oklahoma City Police officer before crashing into a telephone pole and allegedly proclaiming he “didn’t do anything”

OKLAHOMA CITY — An 18-year-old is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police and crashing into a patrol vehicle and another car while allegedly intoxicated during a brief pursuit, KTUL reported.

The July 21 incident began when an officer observed a red truck drifting into oncoming traffic. The officer activated emergency lights in an attempt to alert the driver, but the vehicle continued to veer off the road.

Video shows the driver initially slowed down and turned into a residential neighborhood, pulling into a driveway. When the officer approached and opened the truck’s door, the driver accelerated forward with the door open, then reversed and struck the officer’s patrol car. The open door also hit the officer, though he remained standing and returned to his vehicle to pursue the suspect.

The pursuit continued through the neighborhood, where the suspect struck a parked car and drove across a front yard before re-entering the roadway. He reached high speeds before colliding with a telephone pole while attempting to turn onto another street. Officers boxed in the truck, and the suspect exited with his hands raised.

While being placed in a patrol car, the suspect reportedly yelled that he “didn’t do anything.” Police said the truck smelled strongly of alcohol, and a partially consumed Four Loko alcoholic beverage was found on the passenger side floorboard.

The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being booked. He faces charges including eluding, assault and battery on a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and driving under the influence under age 21.
