ELKINS PARK, Pa. — Authorities in suburban Philadelphia have filed charges against a just-terminated volunteer firefighter who they said held four firefighters hostage at gunpoint last week, firing one shot into a wall before surrendering an hour later.

Cheltenham Township police said that following a mental health evaluation, 25-year-old Paul Jordan has been charged in Montgomery County with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangering, unlawful restraint and weapons offenses, among other counts.

Police said he was arraigned Tuesday and ordered held in lieu of $1.5 million bail; court documents don’t list an attorney who could respond to the charges.

Authorities allege that Jordan held the victims in the basement of LaMott Fire Company, about 10 miles north of downtown Philadelphia, on March 31. No one was injured.
