Ohio PD officers respond to over 1,000 calls in nearly two-day period after snow storm

Columbus Police Department officers were dispatched to 107 accidents without injuries and nine accidents with injuries in that time frame, accordsing to department data

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus received a rare snowfall as a winter storm came through the area Jan. 21. Icy conditions plagued multiple roads in several areas of Columbus the following days causing unsafe driving conditions, the Ledger-Enquirer reported.

The Columbus Police Department announced they responded to over 1,000 calls for service between 1 p.m. Jan. 21 and noon Jan. 23.

What’s more noticeable is the number of accidents CPD responded to. CPD was dispatched to 107 accidents without injuries and nine accidents with injuries in that time frame, according to data provided by CPD.

The data shows CPD also had 184 calls to assist stranded motorists during that time.

For comparison, the department saw 18 accidents without injuries, seven accidents with injuries and seven calls to assist stranded motorists in the same time frame the previous week, according to the data.

CPD said state and city crews have made significant progress, but some icy patches remain on the roads.

“We encourage drivers to continue to exercise caution when traveling,” the news release said.

There were also 226 calls to Fire/EMS during the nearly two-day period this week, according to the data. The data shows there were 270 calls for help to Fire/EMS during the same time period the previous week.

The release said, “We are thankful for all local first responders and the support of city and state road crews who have worked alongside us to clear roads and keep our community safe.”
