DENVER — A suspected fuel thief crashed into Moffat County Sheriff’s Office deputies during a vehicle chase Thursday morning, leaving three with minor injuries.

Geomar Gomez-Hernandez, 35, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault on a peace officer, vehicular eluding causing injury and criminal mischief, all felonies, as well as resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, theft and reckless driving, according to deputies.

Craig police tried to pull Gomez-Hernandez while responding to a report of fuel theft at a gas station at about 11 a.m. Deputies stepped in after he failed to stop for police, chasing Gomez-Hernandez’s pickup truck down a county road as he drove into oncoming traffic while speeding more than 20 mph over the limit, forcing other drivers off the road.

Gomez-Hernandez eventually lost control of the truck and crashed into a ditch on Colorado 13. When deputies tried to perform a traffic stop, Gomez-Hernandez reversed into their vehicles, striking two patrol cars and taking off down the highway.

He was finally stopped and arrested on Colorado 13 near Moffat County Road 101. Gomez-Hernandez and three deputies received medical treatment following the chase, and Gomez-Hernandez was booked into Moffat County Detention Center.
