DURANGO, Colo. — An “unexpected repeat offender” led cops on a chase through a Colorado town — for the second time in less than a year.

The creature tries to hop around an officer in a narrow alleyway along a building, but the officer captures the runaway kangaroo before it can make its escape, video shared by the Durango Police Department shows.

“Durango’s viral, yet unexpected escapee made a return appearance — yep, Irwin, the kangaroo hopped to us!” the department said in a May 19 post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Officers responded, wrangled him, and proved public safety doesn’t skip a hop — even with paws and a pouch.”

After snatching the rogue kangaroo, the officer carries him toward a group of squad cars as Irwin struggles against him.

“We have the kangaroo detained,” the officer’s partner says with a laugh over the handheld radio.

The officer loads Irwin into the back of the squad car as the officer’s partners gather to high five him.

The red kangaroo first led officers on a “hopping speed” chase through Durango in October, McClatchy News previously reported.

Durango is about a 315-mile drive southwest from Colorado Springs.
